SUMMARY:The Annapolis Running Festival at Navy-Marine Corp Memorial Stadium
DESCRIPTION:Lee Corrigan from The Annapolis Running Festival asked us to alert neighbors about their event at the Stadium on Saturday\, March 11th.\n\n“Please know that our organization is committed to making this event as least intrusive as it can be for you and the surrounding neighborhoods. We will also make sure that we do a good job with alerting the area neighborhoods well before Race day.”\n\nExpected impact to surrounding neighbors:\n“Just some minor traffic from 6:00 am – 7:45 am around the stadium as runner arrive for the event and then we start the race. Runners will return to the Stadium from about 7:45-10:00 AM they will be running on Taylor and taking a right into the stadium parking lot at Gate 6 then we will be having a celebration within the stadium complex or in the parking lot (depends on a landscaping project in the stadium). We will be creating a map and timeline for you and the surrounding neighborhoods – we will send that to you electronically and also doing some old fashioned fliers.”\n\nRunning course map links: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NiAckShm3oK-dLqbM2ra4oFrcTUGFS4H?fbclid=IwAR28atk85284_sMGj0sB7gdqYve0PeLlLn5gl9oGPisH3_oGB1v88aU_lwA\n\nPlease reach out to Lee@corrigansports.com about any questions or concerns about the race day.

SUMMARY:GHCA Monthly Social: Trivia Night at Galway Bay
DESCRIPTION:Which United States general resigned his commission in the State Capitol building in downtown Annapolis?\nWhat was the first capitol of Maryland?\nWhat is the next largest state to Maryland and is almost twice it’s size?\n\n*answers at the end \nIf you don’t know the answers to any one of these questions\, then it’s time to join your neighbors for Trivia Night at Galway Bay (63 Maryland Ave Annapolis\, MD 21401) on Tuesday\, January 10th. This is a popular event for Annapolis locals so plan to come early so we can form a group or two (or more!) before the 7:30PM start time\, registration starts at 6:45PM. Trivia at Galway Bay is a charity benefit meaning you get to choose the charity while also winning gift certificate prizes. We have a lot of great minds in the neighborhood so let’s pool our collective knowledge of random facts together while providing an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other further. If you are interested in participating\, feel free to just show up on time or email Brian Borden at bborden07@gmail.com so we can get a more accurate head count for the bar. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \n* Answers to above questions: \n\nGeorge Washington\nSt. Mary’s City\nWest Virginia

SUMMARY:Germantown Elementary Book Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Germantown Elementary Book Fair is December 5th-9th and Germantown Elementary PTA is looking for local businesses and individuals to support Germantown Elementary students and teachers in achieving their academic goals this year by helping buy books for them at our annual Book Fair. The book fair offers our most vulnerable students the chance to come away with a book of their own and for teachers to have a selection of books in their classroom that represent their students. For many students in our school\, buying a book \, bringing it home to read and share with their family is extremely impactful\, and educationally powerful. All contributions are welcome\, and any donations that are received are tax deductible. The PTA will make sure that your sponsorship is recognized at the Book Fair but also as part of the school and the community. If anyone is interested in supporting our students during the Book Fair please contact Pamela Segal and she can send you additional information (where to donate\, formal letter\, etc.\,). Thank you for any help you can provide! Click or copy this link to message Pamela Segal. https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/germantownelementaryschool

SUMMARY:GHCA May Day (May 1st starting at 10:00AM)
DESCRIPTION:The Downtown Historic District will be celebrating their 67th Annual May Day celebration by putting baskets of fresh-cut flowers in front of their homes and businesses by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday\, May 1st. GHCA would also like to encourage our community members to share their own GHCA May Day spirit by creating their own floral displays. In the past\, even the kids have gotten involved in making their own displays to add to the fun. Although this year we won’t be giving out prizes or bragging rights for the top arrangements\, we would like love to share your floral GHCA May Day arrangement with the community in our GHCA May Day Facebook post\, in our newsletter\, and on GermantownHomewood.com. If you plan to participate\, please send your name and address to ghca21401@gmail.com\, so we can get a photo of your arrangement and share the location for neighbors to come by to see your display. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate spring and beautify our community! If you would like to volunteer and run the May Day Germantown Homewood event next May\, please send us a note to ghca21401@gmail.com\, so we can plan and have a bigger event next year. SUMMARY:Greenscape 2022
DESCRIPTION:GreenScape is a City of Annapolis and community partnership investment of beautification\, clean-up\, and planting in public spaces throughout the City (the Annapolis version of Earth Day). For three decades\, hundreds of projects have been initiated and adopted by individuals\, community groups\, and neighborhood associations. GHCA and some neighboring friends have set up special activities within our neighborhood to coordinate with the the City’s GreenScape event.  Jim Martin\, Keanuú Smith-Brown\, and Bob Waldman are heading up projects in Germantown and Homewood for GreenScape! Help us to plan for the day by signing up when and where you’d like to work. We’ll have coffee and donuts for you\, meet your neighbor\, get stuff done\, and have a helluva good time! \nHOMEWOOD\n9:00AM-11:00AM at the S. Cherry Grove bridge. Volunteers will cut back vines and fish old plastic bottles and trash out of the Creek under and around the footbridge. Others will loosen soil and prepare it for planting flowers. Volunteers should bring gloves\, old shoes\, coveralls/waders\, shovels\, crowbars\, especially cutting tools like loppers\, pruners\, hedge trimmers\, and saws. If you have a crab net that would be helpful as well. Antonia Barry and Jim Martin are project leaders.\n\n10:30AM start time at the Fowlkes’ Community Park at the end of McGuckian adjacent to Ceremony Coffee. Trash will be picked up\, flower beds will be cultivated with topsoil/mulch\, and additional new flowers/plants will be planted. The Park is dedicated to Lyle and Gilda Fowlkes who live next to the park in honor of their service to the Annapolis Community and to youth programs at the City’s Rec and Parks Department. Please bring any gardening materials/tools you have that may help with the project (i.e. masks\, gloves\, shovels\, rakes). Keanuú Smith-Brown is coordinating.\n\nGERMANTOWN\n9:30AM meeting time at Studio 39 circle. The Germantown projects are primarily in Poplar Park. Our primary focus will be on Glen Ave and Bulletin Board Plaza\, but the more people come\, the more projects will appear. Dress appropriately and bring tools appropriate for what you want to do. A weed whacker to trim back liriope would be helpful. Bob Waldman is coordinating.\nIf you are interested\, please fill out this survey and/or send your information and offer to assist to ghca21401@gmail.com.  Although we would love for you to complete the survey/registration ahead of time\, you may also just show up on the day of the event\, if you weren’t able to register earlier.  \nFor more details on the GreenScape citywide program\, click on link below. \n
